Addicted World

we live in addiction prisons
habits captured seeking rapture
to render malaise to meaning
selfish slaves, senseless consumers,
mowing down the earth
on Kodak boardwalks
jamming grandiose Experience
into addled, atrophied receptors

avoidance blinders
paired with dopamine goad,
aside overbearing biochemical snares
we navigate a Chinese finger trap
world of Skinner boxes
sending postcards from prison
snapshot forgeries a best-life façade
suggesting sublimity to which
expectations render us numb

truly, tell me is our sublime
euphony or euphemism?
traipsing privacy-screened playgrounds
to block out suffering counterpoint
to quasi-spiritual indulgence
reaping benefits of slaughter
while condemning feebly triggers,
wave it away with condescension
holding the neatness of luxury
as evidence of a Just World
