residing in numb grayscale
tones of comfort
time passes like a warm bath
occasionally regarded with
sorrow or dismay
memories of a world beyond
windows drawn with disuse patina
shared experiences give life, but
they’re always situated
on the opposite bank
of a sea of uncertainty,
and here the certain life
is solitary gray unchanging,
the result of a policy
of making plans you can count on
and magnifying differences
to justify keeping apart,
violent tides my epiphanies crash
upon the rocks of habit
much spray to contemplate
but not much change
