Cone of Light

glittering adornments
gold medal sequins
a dazzling barrier
fractal reflections on self
me and my worth and my status
impoverished fraction of prism
a lonely streetlamp shining
in darkness unexplored
the lives and cares of others
having meaning only as they pass
through the cone of validation
all else repelled with intellect acerbic
grasping language club-like
battering away empathy
in condescending polysyllabic showers
explore life as a smirk
beneath a shell of judgment
within which spirit wilts from lack
of intimacy and empathy
