Fresh Eyes

free me with this new day’s light
to see beyond useful lenses
with all their blocky boxes
all their angles, grades, and labels
let me unlearn and release
casual dismissal of detail
all the irrelevant pith of life
the swaying grasses and the breeze
the swooping flight and chitter
of a flock of small black birds
all that is meaningless to
cash register appraisal
let me step aside from the expectation
to march or have good explanation
let me tarry and dither and frolic
let me find the wonder
in my own backyard while others
travel the world frenetically
trying to outrun ennui
